With the advent of modernization, the world has hastily made conventions based on its little understanding of a particular scenario. The plant, cannabis sativa is one such example. Known famously as marijuana throughout the world and quite infamous for its demand, it initially started as a medicine. The ancient man valued this plant immensely and used it often as a token of celebration, keeping in mind it's medicinal qualities. However, as science progressed, modernism took over the intellect behind the prehistoric culture. Hence, marijuana soon acquired its fame owing to the misuse of the plant.

 What is medical cannabis?

Although the modern man was not as quick to recognize the benefits of the plant, the world seemed to have come around after all. With further developments in science, particularly medicine, researchers have found that marijuana can, in reality, be of immense help in some instances. Doctors are primarily of the opinion that patients should use this under prescribed conditions. However, while some doctors are welcoming the changes with an open mind, some remain negligent.

"My advice for patients is to be entirely open and honest with your physicians and to have high expectations of them. Tell them that you consider this to be part of your care and that you expect them to be educated about it, and to be able to at least point you in the direction of the information you need." ~~Dr. Peter Grinspoon, MD

One scenario where patients have reaped the benefits of hemp is a disease known as Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

What is Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder?

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD is a mental disease that is common among American citizens. According to High Times, it is visible in 7.7 million Americans. While the cause of PTSD is a shocking event, like physical or sexual assault, accidents, or any activity that led to acute trauma, C-PTSD or Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder works a little differently. C-PTSD shows prominence in people who grew up in an inappropriate environment. Usually, this disease is a consequence of multiple cataclysmic events that a person had to face as a child. More often than not, it is due to repeated acts of violence as a child that affects an adult the most. Studies have found this condition common among kids growing up in war zones.

The symptoms of C-PTSD include the following:

  1. Frequent nightmares and flashbacks: Patients of C-PTSD seem to go back to the events through nightmares and flashbacks. These occur frequently.
  2. Abstaining from going to places where most of it took place: The patients tend to avoid the areas associated with the incidents.
  3. Insomnia: These people suffer from insomnia and hence, have trouble sleeping.
  4. Loss of trust: People suffering from C-PTSD do not trust others easily. In fact, they find it tough to trust anybody.
  5. Always on high alert: Patients of C-PTSD is still in a state of high alert. They are always looking out for danger.

How does medical marijuana help resolve C-PTSD?

C-PTSD, with its dangerous symptoms, can become quite a burden for a person. The patient has the option to indulge in counseling sessions or psychiatric treatment, but it gets cumbersome with them actually 'experiencing' everything all over again, now and then. However, the usage of cannabis and cannabis seeds  provides instant relief.

According to a recent study by Health Science researchers in Brazil, approximately 15% of people will suffer from PTSD at some point in their lives.

Cannabis, with its THC and CBD content, where the former brings the patient into a state of 'high,' and the latter provides the necessary medication, is recently a favorite among people who suffer from Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. While THC  intoxicates, CBD treats disorders like anxiety, pain, inflammation, and epileptic seizures.

C-PTSD is a condition where the patient is prone to experience all of the above symptoms that CBD is used to treat. Anxiety and pain are the two main cases reported by patients. Doctors opine that the usage of cannabinoids can reduce the exposure of the patient to his or her past. While, without marijuana, they tend to 'feel' their history, with it, they see a flashback of their pasts. The difference can be understood if the former is thought of as acting in a movie while the latter as watching one. Hence, the reduction in pain results.

Where can one get medical cannabis?

Medical cannabis is available only in some selected, authorized stores. For a steady intake of cannabis as per prescription, the recommendation is to mail order marijuana from online dispensaries. These stores hold the authority to sell marijuana for medical purposes, legally. Hence, getting your hands on Sativastrains is relatively more straightforward.

Another pressing reason behind suggesting online drug stores is the fact that taboos related to cannabis are not dead. They exist and often stop patients from getting the required medication for their condition. The consequence of this is worse since the patient might indulge in self-destruction.

Online stores, thus, enables the suffering people to get the required medical help without any feelings of embarrassment.

 Conclusion

Medical marijuana has found a lot of attention recently. Owing to the doctors, researchers and illegal drug peddlers, FDA has approved of two chemicals, known as cannabinoids, contained in cannabis: THC and CBD. Both have high utilization in the case of C-PTSD as the former sends the patient in a state of high, allowing them to forget their past experiences partially, and the latter helps to treat their condition.

With researchers putting their efforts to break the convention, it is only a matter of time before FDA recognizes marijuana as a form of medication and not merely as an intoxicating agent.
